This is a public service announcement. See these cat "meat balls" you can get at German supermarkets? See the crazy face that cat has on the box? That is what your cat will look like once your start giving him these treats. My cat has become totally addicted to these things. Every time I go near the cabinet where I keep the Fleischbällchen he’s there with the crazy eyes. The past week he’s been walking on my head in the middle of the night. I took him to the vet thinking maybe he had a toothache or something but alas he’s fine. Then it dawned on me! He just wants me to wake up and give him Fleischbällchen!

Happy Dogs

Some nice dogs waiting for Ma or Dad at the supermarket. In Germany dogs are allowed at the workplace, restaurants, the train and many hotels. I think they are a lot more obedient than NYC dogs. Some Berliners ride their bikes and their dogs run besides them on the bike path. Another thing I noticed is when I see a puppy here there isn’t the usual 20 people surrounding him and saying, “Awe what’s your name?”.

Zoe is Guilty

This is my cat Zoe. I called him “Z!”. He lives in Berlin with me but he’s also an American. For some reason he got very angry at these paper towels. I wonder what they did to him to provoke this.

This is a fake cow that stands outside a new LPG organic supermarket in my neighborhood. LPG is pretty nice inside and has a good butcher counter and cosmetics area. It’s more upscale than your normal supermarket. It uses a membership system, as you walk around everything has two prices. I’m not sure how much is costs to join.

Tierheim Berlin

The Tierheim or “Animal Home” Berlin is a place for stray animals or pets who’s owners have died. It’s a gorgeous building complex on the outskirts of East Berlin. Movies, music video and commercials have been shot here. On the Tierheim website there is a photo of Anton Corbijn and his film crew working in the main courtyard. Germany does not euthanize pets and you can visit the Tierheim and return home with a new friend.
